PORTABLE LIVE

Portable, an influential musician, emerged from the vibrant and challenging landscape of post-apartheid South Africa. In 1997, he moved to London, where he began blending the traditional African rhythms of his youth with experimental electronic music. This fusion led to the creation of his own label, Süd Electronic, and released groundbreaking singles like "Gridshift," along with albums such as "Futuristic Experiments #005" and "Cycling."

Later, Portable moved to Lisbon, delving deeper into his African roots through music. Under the alias Bodycode, he collaborated with international labels like Ghostly International and Spectral, expanding his global reach. Subsequent moves to Berlin and Paris saw him release acclaimed tracks and albums, including "Surrender" and "Alan Abrahams," and launch Khoikhoi Records.

In 2020, Portable released "The Transit of Mercury," receiving critical acclaim and being recommended by Pitchfork. In 2022, he signed with Circus Company, a French record label, and released "My Sentient Shadow." His live project "African Ambient" highlights his transformative journey, seamlessly blending traditional African rhythms with European ambient elements.

Portable's work reflects his diverse cultural experiences, blending sounds from South Africa and Europe. Through "African Ambient," he aims to bridge the gap between continents, describing it as his musical diary, celebrating the sounds and cultures that have shaped him. This journey highlights how music can transcend boundaries, taking him from intimate venues to global festivals.
